Trust Me on This - Jennifer Crusie

Dennie Banks is an investigative reporter chasing down the biggest story of her career. Alec Prentice is a government agent working undercover to catch an elusive grifter. When they meet by accident, it’s a case of mistaken identities at first sight. What they don’t mistake is the instant attraction they have for each other, an attraction they’ll do everything in their power to resist—because Dennie thinks that Alec is running interference for her interview subject, and Alec suspects that Dennie is linked to his swindler. As the confusion grows, so do their feelings for each other, and what begins as a romantic comedy of errors may just end in the love affair of a lifetime.

First of all this will be a short review okay now that I've said that onward...

I am a huge fan of Jennifer Crusie. Her books are always lighthearted and funny. They always make me smile and they are a good break between historicals.

This book was no exception. I was laughing at the antics of Dennie, Alec, Harry and Victoria. Yeah I know the description only mentions Dennie and Alec but the story of Harry and Victoria was just as important or wonderful as Dennie and Alec's.

While I really loved the story and the reason I'm only giving it four stars is I felt it was a bit rushed but then again they were only together at a hotel for a weekend but other than that the story was great and I think if maybe if it took place over a week instead of a weekend it might not have felt  so rushed.

Also this book is a reiusse from 1997 so I also found it funny that the references were from that time so I thought that added to the hilarity of it.

So nevertheless if you are in the mood for a quick, funny and lighthearted read then this book (or pretty much any Jennifer Crusie book) will be the ticket!!

If you wanna check out Dennie and Alec's story just go here ---> Trust Me on This (Loveswept)

When Beauty Tamed the Beast - Eloisa James

Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, lives in a castle in Wales where, it is rumored, his bad temper flays everyone he crosses. He's a Beast.

Miss Linnet Thynne is one of the most exquisite young ladies ever to grace London's ballrooms. She's a Beauty.

Linnet has been involved in a scandalous flirtation with a prince, and everyone in the ton thinks she's carrying a royal child: she needs a husband.

Linnet estimates it will take two weeks—at the outside—to bring the earl to his knees. Piers knows that he will never fall in love, and definitely never marry.
This is the second book in Eloisa's Happily Ever After series. Although the books are not connected by characters but the fact that they are based off of fairytales. Her first was A Kiss at Midnight which is a retelling of the Cinderella story.

This book is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. With our dear Linnet starring as Beauty and Piers starring as Beast.

Linnet has been snubbed by the ton because after receiving the cut direct from a Prince and after weeks of shameless flirting with him and also a horrid shaped dress everyone thinks she is carrying the illegitimate child of that same Prince. Her father believes the talk because his wife was known for her open dalliances. He fears that Linnet is cut from the same cloth. She finally convinces him she is not carrying a child but he still sends her off to the wilds of Wales to be betrothed to Piers Yelverton, whom is known as the Beast.

Piers has lived his life to become one of the best doctors in England. He houses many patients at his huge estate in Wales. He cares for their ailments but nothing else. His father was an opium addict who caused the injury to his leg which forces him to use a cane and causes him constant pain. He also divorces his mother and afterwards she flees back home to France with Piers in tow. Piers is bitter at his father for his opium use and the infliction he caused him but now he wants him to marry the most beautiful, delictible woman he has ever met. Even if he weren't attracted to Linnet by her beauty her sharp tongue and wit would have brought him in.

Linnet and Piers fit together so perfectly in my mind. Because yes Piers desires Linnet but he also sees what is underneath. He sees who she really is and loves her more for that than anything. Also, the same for Linnet. While most people see the bad tempered doctor with a limp she sees someone who really does care because of how he helps his patients.

I loved this book and the banter between not only Piers and Linnet but Piers and Prufrock were absolutely hilarious!! I found myself laughing out loud several, several times!! I also love heroes with rough edges and man did Piers have lots of rough edges, LOL!!

One Night in Scotland - Karen Hawkins

Branded a thief and held prisoner in a Scottish castle high upon a cliff by the dark and forbidding Earl of Erroll, Mary Hurst must find a way to free herself and gain possession of a mysterious artifact that can help her beloved brother regain his freedom.

Fortunately, Mary is no simple, schoolroom miss and the handsome earl is about to discover that spirited women do not take kindly to being imprisoned. Forced to deal with his recalcitrant (and he’s certain, devious) guest, Erroll finds himself reluctantly admitting that if he weren’t so sure she was a thief, he might be interested in the intrepid Mary. Might be, he reminds himself after he kisses her yet one more time . . .
Before Mary’s done, the earl will wish he’d never turned the key upon her door . . . and wonder if perhaps she really is a thief, and has stolen his heart!

This is the first book in Karen Hawkins new Hurst Amulet series. I love Karen Hawkins she is definitely in my Top Ten Historical Romance Authors.

This story starts out the series and the search for the Hurst family amulet that has long been thought to be a curse to whoever holds it in their possession. Mary Hurst gets a letter from her brother Michael, the adventurer and Egyptologist. He has been kidnapped and held prisoner during his search for the amulet and he needs a certain artifact to be delivered to his captors in order to set him free. So with her brothers all gone Mary sets off to Scotland to retrieve the box from the reclusive Earl of Erroll. Soon she finds herself branded a thief and imposter and held prisoner at the whim of the dominating Earl.

Angus Hay has not been the same since a fire claimed his wife seven years ago and left not only scars on his soul but also his body. He holes up in his half destroyed estate with his tomes and artifacts but when he meets fiery and tempting curvaceous Mary Hurst his heart thought long dead was alive again. He notices the similarities in looks in Mary to his late wife but Mary is more alive and more daring than Kiera ever was. He at first refuses to believe Mary is who she says she is because his friend Michael Hurst had sent a letter warning him that no matter what not to give the box to anyone no matter who they were.

Mary has a letter from Michael about needing the box but with Angus' contradicting letter from Michael warning of someone coming to try to take the box Angus needs confirmation that Mary is who she claims to be. So he takes Mary prisoner but he soon learns that he was a fool about not believing her and realizes he needs her in his life to make it brighter and make him feel alive once again.

This story was soo beautiful!! I loved how Mary helped Angus realize that even though he had scars on his body that he was still handsome and he deserved to live the life he had always dreamed of, of becoming an adventurer. Mary, too, wants to do what her brother does and together her and Angus will live an adventure. The story was soo well written and the tension and anticipation between Mary and Angus was palpable.

So I am sooo freaking excited to read the next book in the series Scandal in Scotland. Now I also want to read her Maclean series which stars two of Mary Hurst's sisters. I will have to work on getting those and of course adding them to the ever growing to be read pile of mine!! I will also need to read Much Ado About Marriage which is a prequel to not only the Hurst Amulet series but the Maclean series. Although I was not lost while reading this book I still want to read them because I love me a Scottish man!!

How to Woo a Reluctant Lady - Sabrina Jeffries

Lady Minerva Sharpe has the perfect plan to thwart her grandmother’s demand that she marry by year’s end:  become engaged to a rogue!  Surely Gran would rather release her inheritance than see her wed a scoundrel.
And who better to play the part of Minerva’s would-be husband than wild barrister Giles Masters, the very inspiration for the handsome spy in the popular gothic novels she writes?  The memory of his passionate kiss on her nineteenth birthday has lingered with Minerva, though she has no intention of falling for such a rakehell, much less marrying him! Little does she know, Giles really is a covert government operative.  When the two team up to investigate the mystery behind her parents’ deaths, their fake betrothal leads to red-hot desire. Then Minerva discovers Giles’s secret double life, and he must use all the cunning tricks of his trade to find his way back to her heart.

This is book number 3 in Sabrina Jeffries Hellions of Halstead Hall series. I've been waiting since book one to read Minerva's story.

Minerva Sharpe had been in love with Giles Masters since he helped her through the funeral of her parents. However, Giles seemed to only care about gambling and women and she thought he would never notice her. That is until she is about to make her debut in society she decides to take matters into her own hands. She sneaks into a party where people are dressed in costumes and reveling in debauchery [I love that word :o)]. She is heartbroken to find him nowhere to be present but soon catches him stealing papers from the host's desk.

Giles was trying to seek revenge for his father's death even though it was a suicide. His father was pushed down a dark road after many risky investments and when the last one went bust he could not longer take the toll of such a role in society. His plan goes off without a hitch until Minerva catches him in the act dressed to make a man lose his mind. All she asks for in return for her silence is a kiss. Would he dare kiss the sister of his best friends? He decides it is the only way to keep her silence. He kisses her senseless but at the same time burning that kiss forever into his mind. He blows her off and thus shattering her heart.

For the next nine years Giles works as an informant for the Home Office but when the opportunity presents itself to become a King's Counsel he must give up that life and decides he needs a wife and no one else but Minerva has been a consideration for him since their kiss.

Minerva has spent those same nine years mending her broken heart and pouring out everything into her books and using Giles as a basis for the villain in her books. And also using her parts of her life in her books as well including mentioning a certain costume party...but soon she starts stepping too close to the truth and Giles decides that he needs to marry her, also, to keep her from ratting out his secrets and also the thought of her in his bed doesn't hurt either. Minerva agrees only because she thinks her grandmother will never let her marry such a scoundrel and then maybe she will release her from her ultimatum to marry in order to gain her inheritance.

Soon Giles and Minerva are working together to try to solve what really happened to Minerva's parents (which I assume we won't really know until the last book in the series). With this Minerva realizes she never really stopped loving Giles but was just angry with him (for a while) but can she prove to him that her love is worth it and to trust her when trust is not something that comes easy to him. Also, can he trust and love her enough to share his past with her and let her see the real Giles and not the one he presents to the rest of the world?

OMG I loved this book it was everything and more of what I was hoping for!! I soo love Minerva she is my kind of heroine. She is ballsy and doesn't mind doing as she pleases.

OH and Giles talk about a handsomely devilish rake. He had my heart in the first book and with this one it just grew to a feverish pitch, LOL!!

So far this is my favorite book in this series and to tell you I cannot wait for Gabe's book because I consider him a definite book boyfriend because he is dark and mysterious and those are my favorite kinds!!!
